It's outdoor living season! - Taber Residential

With summer upon us, many homeowners are looking to upgrade or add some outdoor living space. Here in north Georgia, covered decks and patios are the most popular. All Taber Residential projects are built above and beyond what is required by building code and will add value to your home for years to home. Our deck projects are permitted and inspected by your local municipality, and we will work with your home owner’s association to get your project approved, if needed.

Decks

One popular addition to an existing deck is a roof. To do this, new footers and support posts often need to be installed to carry the additional weight of the roof. If your deck is fairly new and in great shape, most municipalities will allow new footers and posts to be installed without replacing the whole deck. We usually finish a roof addition with a beveled pine ceiling, pictured below, which can be painted or stained. For a deck over a basement walk out, we can install a concrete pad and add an under-deck ceiling system to keep the space dry for rainy day use. We can also add ceiling fans, ventless fireplaces or a TV! As with any project, we can modify our plans to fit any design whether it be an upgraded handrail system, grill platform or pet friendly screen enclosure.

We frequently get calls for deck repairs, or to expand an existing deck. Unfortunately, most of the time due to a variety of issues, we are unable to repair the deck. Some issues are due to the quality of pressure treated wood from years ago, lack of maintenance, or sub par repairs made to address a structural or decking problem.

Patios

Patios are another great way to maximize outdoor living space, and many new construction homes in the Dawsonville and Cumming areas already have a slab patio in place. Adding a roof with fans and lighting is a great way to enjoy the space. Some homeowners choose to add to the existing slab for a little more square footage, or even a screen system to keep out the bugs.
